
Ice Flyers Tame Havoc 3-2

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Pensacola Ice Flyers (20-11-2) fought off a late comeback attempt by the Huntsville Havoc to 17-15-2 to win 3-2 and move back into second place in the SPHL standings.
The Ice Flyers controlled the play the first period and dominated in shots 17-4 but the first ended in a scoreless tie. The tie was broken 7:06 into the second with a power play goal scored by Adam Pawlick after he situated himself deep in the slot. Joe Caveney and Mike Krieg had the helpers. Huntsville tied the game with a power play goal of their own when Bo Driscoll batted in a rebound. The Ice Flyers went back on top after Stephen Buco picked up a loose puck and fired a pass over to Mark Rivera in the slot who then roofed it over Huntsville goalie Kevin Genoe for the 2-1 lead.
Gehrett Sargis pushed the lead to 3-2 with a quick shot from the slot that beat Genoe five hole. Buco and Rivera had the assists on the goal that came 17 seconds in the third. Kyle McNeil cut the lead in half with an extra attacker, power play goal with just 39.0 seconds left in regulation. The Huntsville comeback hit a speed bump when Stuart Stefan took a tripping penalty with 18 seconds left in the third.
Keegan Asmundson started his third game in a row and stopped 26 of the 28 shots he faced for this third win. Pensacola swept the Three Stars with Sargis being third, Buco second, and Rivera the number one star.
The Ice Flyers will be back in action next Friday, Feb. 12, when they host the Mississippi RiverKings for Daddy/Daughter Date Night in the Hangar! Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
