Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

Pensacola, Fla. - The Pensacola Ice Flyers faced the Augusta RiverHawks on the road for the second time in as many nights, and just as the night before, it was the Ice Flyers on top when the final horn sounded. Pensacola took another two road points with a 5-3 victory and improved their record to 5-2-1, as Augusta remains winless with a record of 0-6-1.

Ice Flyers goaltender Steve Christie stopped 29 of 32 shots on goal, and BJ O'Brien of the RiverHawks stopped 17 of 22 shots he faced. Pensacola was able to bury one goal on five power play chances and Augusta failed to score on five opportunities.

The Ice Flyers got on the board first four minutes in with a tally from forward Brent Clarke. The RiverHawks did not take long to respond as Matt Puntureri scored to make it 1-1. With just 20 seconds left Patrick Knowlton scored for Pensacola to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

Augusta fought back once again with a goal ten minutes into the second frame when Justin Daniels scored. Knowlton would put his team up by one again with his second of the night with just under three minutes to play in the second.

Knowlton's night was not finished yet as he completed the hat trick just two minutes into the final period. Ryan Raven of Pensacola scored on a beautiful pass from John Dunbar to put the Ice Flyers up 5-2. Augusta did not give up and tried to mount a comeback late in the game when Chad Ziegler scored to come within two goals of the Ice Flyers. It was not enough and the Ice Flyers left Augusta taking all four points up for grabs over the last two nights.

Pensacola has Saturday off and then faces Huntsville Sunday afternoon at 3:05 p.m on home ice. The organization is hosting Family Fun Day with a pre-game party on the plaza starting at noon and finishing off with a full team autograph session after the game. Augusta completes their weekend on Saturday with a road game in Fayetteville.
