Louisiana IceGators News Release
Lafayette, Louisiana--For the second straight game, the Louisiana IceGators fought back from an early deficit to extend their win streak. Andrew Howes, who tonight made his debut with the IceGators, led the team with two goals in their 4-2 victory over the Huntsville Havoc.
The IceGators (6-1-0) travel to Columbus for a Saturday night game against the Cottonmouths. They return to the Frozen Swamp Sunday at 3:05 P. M. for a contest against the Mississippi Surge.
"I thought this was the best consistent effort we've given this season," said IceGators head coach Kevin Kaminski. Kaminski served the final game of a three-game suspension tonight and will return to the bench tomorrow in Columbus. "Even though we were down 2-0, I thought we had lots of jump. We were physical, and we stuck to our game plan."
The IceGators gave up two goals to the Havoc (1-5-1) in the first period. Jesse Kallechy, who also made his debut tonight, gave up a goal to Shane Hart less than three minutes into the match. Nearly ten minutes later, Kevin Brojek scored from the slot to make the game 2-0 in favor of Huntsville
Louisiana found their spark in the second period. Denny Kearney scored on a powerplay off of assists from Robert Short and Matt Robertson at the six-minute mark. Short picked up a goal nearly two minutes later off of a feed from Robertson. Howes scored the final two goals of the game. The first was an unassisted score that came with five minutes remaining in the second period. The other came just over four minutes into the third period off of assists from Cody Zubko and Marc-André Carre.
Kaminski says playing simple hockey will get them through the rest of the weekend. "We're going on the road, so we don't have to impress anybody," Kaminski said. "We have to play with high energy, but we have to keep everything simple. We can't reinvent the wheel."
