
Surge Blemish 'Kings Perfect Home Record

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. - A late goal by Jeff Grant capped a third-period-comeback for the Mississippi Surge as Mississippi RiverKings fell 4-3 to the Surge in their first home loss of the season.
The "ËKings got on the board first with a goal from captain Darrell Stoddard at the 19:40 mark of the first period on a slap shot that beat Dan Clark, high blocker side to send the RiverKings into the first intermission up by one. The RiverKings added to their lead midway through the second with Nick Walsh burying home Daniel Barczuk's wraparound pass to put the home-team ahead 2-0.
The RiverKings were on the penalty kill for most of the second period with five penalties in the second period. The Surge capitalized on their final power play of the period with their first goal of the night at the 13:27 mark with a redirect from Corey Tamblyn to cut the RiverKings lead to two heading into the third period.
The Surge acted fast in the third period when James Isaac's shot from the point tied the game on the power play just 2:37 into the final frame. The Surge took a 3-2 lead at the 7:15 mark from a Nickolas Kuqali's slap shot off a face off to give the Surge their first lead of the night. But the RiverKings bounced back to tie the game three minutes later with a power play goal by Nick Walsh as he redirected Kyle Lundale's shot past Clark.
But with 11.8 seconds left on the clock, Brandon Kosolofsky set-up Jeff Grant in the slot as Grant tipped in the pass over the glove of Matthew Krahn to take the win. The game-winning goal handed the RiverKings their first loss at home this season.
Matt Krahn (3-2-0) turned aside 36 of 40 shots on goal in the loss. Dan Clark (1-0-0) picked up his first professional win, stopping 25 of 28 shots.
