RiverHawks Unable to Secure Win

Augusta RiverHawks News Release

Augusta, GA--The Augusta RiverHawks once again fell to the Pensacola Ice Flyers at the James Brown Arena, this time 5-3. The loss extends the RiverHawks' miserable start to the season giving them a 0-6-1 record.

Patrick Knowlton was the star of the night for the Ice Flyers, putting up a hat trick with goals in each of the three periods including the game winner in the third period. Ice Flyers' Captain Leo Thomas also helped the cause with a pair of assists, while goaltender Steve Christie made 29 saves.

The RiverHawks carried the play to the Ice Flyers for most of the night, soundly outshooting their opposition by ten shots, but they were never able to garner the lead after allowing an early first period goal. Despite being down by a goal headed into the third period of play, the game was certainly in hand. However, that optimism was spoiled quickly when Knowlton scored just two minutes into the final frame, followed by a Ryan Raven marker just over five minutes later.

The RiverHawks three goals were a positive sign, as they scored more than three times in a game just one other time this season. Matt Puntureri scored his second goal of the season to even the game early in the first period. Forward Justin Daniels scored his first goal in a RiverHawks uniform in the second period, and the final goal of the game came off of the stick of Chad Ziegler, also his second of the season.

RiverHawks' newcomer Shawn Skelly showed why he was acquired by the Club earlier in the week as he helped set up two of the RiverHawks' three markers. BJ O'Brien started his fourth straight game for the RiverHawks making 17 saves.

Augusta will hit the road to face the Fayetteville FireAntz Saturday evening. Fans are encouraged to visit Forest Hills Golf Club for the live viewing party. Game time is set for 7:30PM at the Crown Coliseum. The RiverHawks return to the James Brown Arena Saturday, November 24th as they play the Knoxville Ice Bears.
