
Ice Flyers Overpower Mayhem 4-1

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Pensacola Ice Flyers (8-5-1) used a two goal, one assist performance from Corey Banfield to down the Macon Mayhem (3-7-3) by a score of 4-1 in front of 5,526 fans on Friday night.
The Ice Flyers and the Mayhem played to a scoreless tie after the first period with Macon goalie Garrett Bartus shutting down the Ice Flyers on multiple excellent chances including a ridiculous diving glove on a breakaway attempt by Joe Caveney.
The Ice Flyers continued to pepper the shots on Bartus and it paid off in the middle frame. First Joe Caveney scored unassisted 4:57 into the period. Almost 10 minutes later, captain Adam Pawlick doubled the Ice Flyers' lead to 2-0. Banfield and John Clewlow assisted on the goal. Banfield continued to build the Ice Flyers' momentum with a goal that came with only 37 seconds left in the period. Cole Ruwe and Clewlow picked up the helpers on it.
Banfield scored his second goal of the game on a quick goal that came on a set play after a faceoff 6:16 into the third. The goal put the Ice Flyers up 4-0 and was assisted by Clewlow. Macon was able to break Matt Zenzola's shutout bid when Michael Wills scored with 3:13 remaining in regulation.
Zenzola stopped 27 of Macon's 28 shots to improve to 8-3-1 on the season. For his performance, Zenzola was named third star of the game. Clewlow was named the second star and Banfield was the first star.
The Ice Flyers will be back in action tomorrow in the Hangar for the second half of $5 Weekend when they host the Fayetteville FireAntz at 7:05 p.m. All tickets are $5 excluding glass seats.
