Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
PENSACOLA, FL - The Pensacola Ice Flyers defeated the Fayetteville FireAntz 3-2 on Thursday night at the Pensacola Bay Center for their fifth win in a row.
Nearing the halfway mark of the first, the FireAntz were the first on the board as Josh McQuade scored from Corey Tamblyn. With 1:30 remaining in the period Brett Lutes evened the score with assists to Corey Banfield and Nick McParland to make it a 1-1 game heading into the locker room.
The only goal in the second period belonged to Trever Hertz to restore the FireAntz' lead at 2-1.
It took one minute into the third for the Ice Flyers to tie the game back up with Adam Pawlick finding the back. An unsportsmanlike conduct penalty to FireAntz goaltender Jordan Tibbett gave Pensacola a chance to take the lead for the first time. Thirty-eight seconds into the power play, the Ice Flyers found themselves ahead of Fayetteville with a goal by Corey Banfield from Nick Larson and Pawlick.
The FireAntz pulled Tibbett from the net with thirty-nine second left in regulation for the extra attacker. However, the Ice Flyers held on to win with a final score of 3-2.
Shots were in favor of Pensacola 48 to Fayetteville's 24.
Three stars went to Banfield (1 goal, 1 assist), Pawlick (1 goal, 1 assist) and Larson (2 assists).
With the win, the Ice Flyers improve to a record of 40-21-13 for 49 points and remain in third place in the SPHL moving within 4 points of second place Knoxville.
Pensacola is back at the Bay Center on Friday for Pensacon / Super Hero Night presented by Bob Tyler Toyota. Puck drops at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the Rodizio Grill Box Office at the Bay Center and online at ticketmaster.com.
