Szabados Stymies Huntsville, Columbus Wins 4-1

Shannon Szabados stood on his head and made 25 saves to lead the Columbus Cottonmouths to a 4-1 victory over the Huntsville Havoc.

Columbus was led by Louis Belisle, who had one goal and one assist. Belisle scored 15:37 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Columbus. Mike Switzer picked up the assist.

The Cottonmouths racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and three majors for 69 minutes in penalty time. Columbus had been averaging 18.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Cottonmouths stifled Huntsville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Columbus kept the Havoc's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jesse Kallechy made 28 saves on 32 shots.

Columbus additionally got points from Nick Curry, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Columbus included Matt Gingera and Shawn Bates, who each put in one. More assists for Columbus came via Levi Lind and Bryce Williamson, who contributed one each.

Huntsville forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and three majors for 65 minutes in penalty time. The Havoc surpassed its season average of 23.0 penalty minutes per game. Huntsville relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Jacob Johnstone, Luke Greiner and Justin Cseter took 15 of the team's 26 shots.

The Havoc were led by Frank Schumacher, who took two shots.

The Cottonmouths registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Huntsville registered zero goals on four power play opportunities.
