Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach Ice Dogs Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coach Kevin Kaminski announced today that the Ice Dogs have re-signed forward Jeff Ewasko, who was named to the 2001-02 West Coast Hockey League All-Rookie Team last April, and defenseman Tyler Johnston to one-year deals. Per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Ewasko, 25, joins the Ice Dogs after being released by the Utah Grizzlies' (AHL) training camp on Sun., Sept. 29, and participating in the Tampa Bay Lightning (NHL) Rookie Camp in August. Last season, the 6-foot-7, 234-pound left wing recorded 32 points, 24 assists and 259 penalty minutes—most of any WCHL rookie—in 63 games played. In addition, the Sherwood Park, Alberta native posted six multiple-point games and registered a +18 plus/minus rating.

The 6-foot-2, 212-pound Johnston finished the 2001-02 season with the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies of the East Coast Hockey League with 1-7-8 totals in 40 games after appearing in 11 games with Reading (ECHL). He also played in five games with Arkansas (ECHL). Johnston, 30, has spent the last five seasons in the ECHL collecting 21 goals, 119 points and 269 penalty minutes with Richmond, Birmingham, Arkansas, Reading, and Atlantic City. The Erie, Pennsylvania native's best season as a pro came in 1999-2000 when he posted 47 points, 41 assists and 80 penalty minutes in 67 games.
