Dayton Bombers News Release

The Dayton Bombers have announced that the American Hockey League's Grand Rapids Griffins have assigned onetime Bomber goalie Andrew Allen to the team on a two-way contract.

Allen returns to the club he played for briefly during the 2000-2001 campaign. Allen won all four Dayton starts that season (including two shutouts) and had a miniscule 1.25 GAA.

Allen's 2000-2001 stint with the Bombers followed a four-year career with the University of Vermont Division I hockey program in the NCAA's Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).

During the 2001-2002 regular season, Allen was 7-5-3 and had a 2.95 goals-against average in 16 games played with the ECHL's Macon Whoopee and was 3-2-1 with a 2.29 goals-against average in six games played with the ECHL's Jackson Bandits.

During the Southwest Division Semifinals in the 2002 playoffs, Allen's goaltending was monumental in the Bandits' stunning upset of the Brabham Cup (ECHL Regular Season Standings Points Leader) winning Louisiana IceGators. The Bandits beat Louisiana in the Best-of-Five Series (three games-to-two), despite finishing the regular season with 39 less standings points. Allen's play, which included a minor professional hockey single game playoff record 78 saves in Jackson's 5-4 (triple overtime) Game Two win at Louisiana, merited a call-up shortly after that series to the NHL's Florida Panthers.

Bombers' Head Coach Greg Ireland said, "We are extremely excited to have Andrew Allen back in the fold. Due to his ability, we believe Allen can help provide a solid backbone in our quest for the Kelly Cup Championship."

Single game tickets for the 2002-2003 Bombers' regular season are on sale now. For further ticket information, contact the Dayton Bombers at (937) 775-4747 or the Nutter Center Box Office at (937) 775-4789.

The team will begin its 12th season of ECHL play at the Nutter Center on Friday, October 11 (7:30 p.m) against the Johnstown Chiefs. The Bombers, who will play at Toledo in another exhibition game at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, will be unveiling their 2002 Northern Conference Playoff Championship and 2002 Northwest Division Title banners at a pre-game ceremony at the home opener.
