Alaska Aces News Release

Anchorage, Alaska – The Anchorage Aces have agreed to terms with winger Carl Drakensjo and defenseman Dave Csumrik for the 2002-03 season.

The 25-year-old Drakensjo, a Swedish native, along with new Aces' starting goaltender Christian Soucy, helped Elmira reach the Colonial Cup Finals last year in the United Hockey League with three goals and two assists in 14 playoff games. The third-year pro played collegiate hockey at NCAA Division I powerhouse Clarkson University, where he scored 40 points in his last two seasons with the Golden Knights.

"Carl could be a real sleeper this year," said Davidson. "He has a lot of speed, and now that he has two years under his belt, I think a breakout season is a real possibility."

Davidson first spotted Csumrik as an opposing coach last year in the Central Hockey League, where the 5-11, 190-pound defenseman showed uncommon poise in his first pro campaign after two years in juniors with three different teams in the Ontario Hockey League. Csumrik, who turned 22 in May, finished his rookie season with five goals, 23 assists, and 102 penalty minutes for the Fort Worth Brahmas.

"Dave has looked outstanding in camp," said Davidson. "We needed to improve upon our team defense, and this a huge step in the right direction."

The Aces will hold their first intrasquad "blue & white" scrimmage tomorrow night at Tesoro Sports Centre. The game will begin at 8:00 p.m. and is free of charge and open to the public. Players will be available for autographs and photos before and after the scrimmage, which is expected to conclude around 10:15 p.m. The second "blue & white" game will be held in Wasilla at Brett Memorial Arena Saturday night from 6:00-8:15 p.m. Players will be available for autographs at the four Subway locations in Palmer and Wasilla from 3:00-4:30 p.m.

Aces' Faces: Head Coach Rod Davidson and Jack Michaels, the "Voice of the Aces," will be LIVE on "The Fox," 100.5 FM, tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. on the "Bob & Mark Show."
