Ice Dogs Get Their Goalie

September 9, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs announced today that goaltender Greg Hewitt has agreed to terms for the 2005-2006 season. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The 5'9", 180-pound native of London, Ontario rejoins Head Coach Malcolm Cameron for the third time, having helped the Cincinnati Cyclones get to within one game of the Kelly Cup Finals in the 2002-2003 season. Now entering his fifth professional season, Hewitt has played in 85 ECHL games with Cincinnati and Mobile, 1 AHL game with Milwaukee, 22 CHL games with Corpus Christi, and 84 UHL games with Columbus and Elmira. Over five seasons, his pro numbers include a record of 73-88-24 with 4 shutouts, a goals against average of 3.19 and a .903 save percentage. He was a UHL all-star in 2004 with Columbus, also coached by Cameron.

"I'm really excited to have Greg back with me", said Cameron. "He's one of the most competitive people I've ever met. A tough situation last year in Elmira [the team finished last in the league] will only make him stronger and should help him lead us to the playoffs again this year. Hopefully we can rekindle our past success together."

Hewitt was called up to the AHL on three separate occasions during the 2003-2004 season, despite only playing in one game and earning the winning decision. He was called up twice to Milwaukee during the regular season and once by Grand Rapids in the playoffs.

Opening night is Friday, October 28th, versus the Fresno Falcons at 7:30 PM. Season tickets for the 2005-06 season are on sale now, and can be secured by depositing just $100 per seat. Call (562) ICE-DOGS for visit www.icedogs.com for more information.
