Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers announce today that players from last year's team Brendon Hodge and James Laux have signed their qualifying offers. As per club policy terms of the deal were not released.
Hodge, 27, played the last two seasons in Wheeling, recording over 40 points in each of those seasons. Last year he appeared in 66 games tallying 14 goals, 28 assists with 39 penalty minutes. Before coming to the Nailers the 6'2" 195 pound native of Lynnfield, Massachusetts played four years at SUNY-Plattsburgh in NCAA Div III, recording a total of 162 points in just 119 games.
Laux, 25, appeared in 56 games for the Nailers last season, putting up 10 goals and 12 assists for 22 points with 31 penalty minutes. In 2003-04 Laux spent the majority of his season in the AHL playing with the Philadelphia Phantoms, recording four goals, three assists and 11 penalty minutes in 23 games. The 6'2" 210 pound native of Cherry Hill, New Jersey played two years of college hockey at Colorado College before turning professional in 2003.
"We're excited to have these two players return, both players are responsible at both ends of the ice. Hodge can play on one of our scoring lines or he can play on our checking line, either way he will get it done in both zones," said Nailers Head Coach Glenn Patrick. "And Laux is a big strong d-man who will battle in the corners, but also has a great shot. With our offensive style of play this year we look for him to contribute on offense as well as on defense."
