Phoenix RoadRunners News Release

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL have agreed to terms with rookie defensemen Dusty Demianiuk and Jim McNamara on contracts for the upcoming 2005-06 season. Per club policy, terms of each deal were not disclosed.

Demianiuk, 22, joins the RoadRunners following a four-year collegiate career at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. The Franklin, MA native handed out five assists from the blue line in 2004-05 and finished second on the club with 72 penalty minutes while playing in all but one game for the Minutemen. Demianiuk tallied three goals and 11 points in 88 career games at UMASS-Amherst.

McNamara, 23, completed two seasons at Western Michigan University after transferring from St. Cloud State in 2002. The Macomb, MI native recorded two goals and six points in 29 games last season for the Broncos. Following the completion of his collegiate career, McNamara played in two games for the Kalamazoo Wings of the United Hockey League. McNamara tallied three goals and 16 points in 81 career games between Western Michigan and St. Cloud State. He is also a graduate of the prestigious US Junior National Team development program.

"These are two different, yet equally important pieces to our overall team puzzle," said RoadRunners General Manager and Head Coach Ron Filion. "Dusty will bring toughness to our blue line and should be a great asset on the penalty kill, while Jim is a strong skater with good puck skills that will add mobility to our own end."

With today's signings, the RoadRunners currently have 15 players under contract for the upcoming season with 32 days remaining until the beginning of training camp on October 10.

RoadRunners professional hockey returns to downtown Phoenix at 7PM on Saturday, October 22 when the Utah Grizzlies visit America West Arena in the ECHL season opener for both teams. Season tickets for all 36 home games are on sale now and start as low as $252. For more information call (602) 462-GOAL, or visit www.phxroadrunners.com.
