Coach Laxdal and former Steelheads players to attend NHL camp

Frisco, TX - The Dallas Stars will begin their 2005 training camp at the Frisco Dr. Pepper StarCenter on Tuesday, September 13 with 51 players scheduled to attend. The Dallas Stars are the NHL affiliate of the AHL's Iowa Stars and the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads.
Steelheads' head coach and director of hockey operations, Derek Laxdal, will attend the five-day camp, giving him a chance to meet with the coaching staff, scouts and prospects of the Steelheads' parent organization.
"The biggest thing is that this shows the strength of the affiliation," Laxdal said. "It's a chance to introduce myself to them and the organization. I think the foundation is very strong between all three teams [Dallas, Iowa and Idaho]. If they are going to send a player down to Idaho, they know that player is going to get a great place to play with a great organization."
"We're very much looking forward to having Derek Laxdal at our training camp," said Dallas Stars' Assistant General Manager, Francois Giguere. "It will benefit all of the organizations involved to be on the same page as far as player development and on-ice systems go. With Derek here next week, all of the players will have another experienced coach to learn from and continue their development."
Also attending the camp are forward David Bararuk and goaltender Dan Ellis, both of whom are under contract with the Dallas Stars. Members of the Steelheads 2004 Kelly Cup championship team, Bararuk and Ellis attended the Dallas Stars' developmental camp in mid July.
All of the players will report on Monday morning for physicals and photos at the Dr. Pepper StarCenter in Frisco. The first official practice is scheduled for Tuesday morning with the players practicing based on one of the three groups they are placed in.
The Steelheads open their third ECHL season at home on October 21 against the Long Beach Ice Dogs.
