Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach Ice Dogs (22-40-5) had a chance to gain some ground on the Bakersfield Condors (23-36-9) in the Pacific division of the ECHL Friday night, but lost by a score of 3-2 in front of 3,173 at the Long Beach Arena.

Martin Paquet put a charge into team morale when he hammered a shot past Bakersfield goaltender Shane Bendera (12-14-3) that cut the Condor lead to one at 15:29 in the final frame. However, the remaining four minutes proved fruitless for the Ice Dogs.

Bakersfield got on the board quickly to start the game, when defenseman Quinn Fair scored after only 36 seconds. Ice Dog goaltender T.J. Aceti's (14-21-3) sightline was blocked by a Condor forward on the play, giving the Condors an early advantage. Then, at 5:20 in period one, Bakersfield center Jason Jackman got behind the Long Beach defense to score an easy goal off a pass from John Donnelly.

With just 35 seconds elapsed in the second frame, Bakersfield was awarded a penalty shot due to an Ice Dog takedown in front of the Long Beach net. Johan Astrom converted the opportunity, squeezing one under the legs of Aceti. The Ice Dogs answered at 3:52, when Trevor Read knocked one in from in between the face off circles, assisted by Alex Kim and Mark Gouett. Aceti kept the Ice Dogs within reach after a key save with 10 minutes left in the period.

Long Beach continues its home stand Saturday, March 27, facing off against the Fresno Falcons at 7:00 p.m. in the Long Beach Arena.
