Atlanta Gladiators News Release

After falling behind 1-0, the Louisiana IceGators used a power play goal and a third period shorthanded goal to knock off the Gladiators 3-1 and halt Gwinnett's shutout streak at three games on Saturday night at the Cajundome in Lafayette, Louisiana. Kris Goodjohn opened the scoring for the Gladiators as he rolled a centering pass off of Louisiana netminder Derek Gustafson and into the back of the Louisiana net to give Gwinnett a 1-0 lead. Chris Durno added an assist on the Gladiators first goal. Louisiana tied the contest on the power play at 13:36 of the opening period as Kenny Courpe was able to find a rebound in the slot and flip the puck past Michael Garnett. Alex Materukhin and Semir Ben-Amor picked up the assists on the man advantage goal. Michael Garnett shined in the second period for the Gladiators as the netminder made some key saves on an IceGator power play with a little over five minutes remaining to keep the contest tied at a goal apiece. Louisiana took a 2-1 lead on a 2-on-1 break at the 10:09 mark of the third period as Alex Materukhin took an outlet pass form Bruce Richardson and buried a rebound past Garnett for the eventual game winning goal. Gustafson also added an assist on the shorthanded tally. Semir Ben-Amor added an empty net goal with 51 seconds left in the final stanza to put the contest away. Bobby Brown added an assist on the goal. Michael Garnett made 36 saves in the loss for the Gladiators who drop to 38-22-7 on the season with the loss. Gwinnett is back in action tomorrow as they battle the Louisiana IceGators in a 4:05 p.m. start at the Cajundome.
