Ice Bats edge Riverkings 2-1

Doug Groenestege made 41 saves to vault the Austin Ice Bats over the Mississippi RiverKings 2-1 tonight at Chaparral Ice Arena.

The RiverKings (18-10-1) have now lost four games in a row, all on the road. They had won six straight games before Christmas.

For the third straight game, the RiverKings scored the first goal of the game. Ryan Kindret's fifth of the season at 12:21 made it 1-0 Mississippi. However, also for the third straight game, the RiverKings could not get out of the first period with the lead. Taylor Raszka scored his fifth of the year with 56 seconds remaining to the tie the game.

Zech Klann scored on the power play at 9:20 of the second period to give the Ice Bats (8-22-1) the lead. Following Klann's 6th goal of the year, Groenestege took control of the game. He made 21 saves in the third period and 41 in the game.

Kyle McNulty made 32 saves for the RiverKings, who visit the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. The pre-game show begins at 6:55 p.m. on Y 96.1 FM.
