Laredo Bucks News Release

HIDALGO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 3-2 in front of 4,002 fans at the Dodge Arena Friday night. The loss snapped a six-game winning streak for the Bucks, as they fall to 24-8-2 (50pts).

Laredo lost despite outshooting Rio 42-20.

The Bucks and Killer Bees played to a scoreless first period, as both teams failed to light the lamp. Laredo outshot Rio in the first 20 minutes, 17-7, with Bees goaltender David Lemanowicz stopping all 17 Bucks shots, and Laredo goaltender Kevin Beech setting aside all seven Killer Bee attempts.

The Bucks killed off two Bees power-plays in the first period.

The second period saw a little bit of everything.

Laredo took a 1-0 lead just 1:12 into the period as James Hiebert scored his 18th goal of the season, as he sent a slap shot from the left circle past Lemanowicz. Andrew Desjarinds and Jeff Bes picked up assists.

The Bucks made it 2-0 at the 4:59 mark as Bes scored his 21st goal of the season, with a slap shot from the top of the left circle. Hiebert and Desjarins picked up assists on Bes' goal.

The Killer Bees would then come back and score three straight goals to take the lead.

Rio (9-15-5) cut the Bucks lead to 2-1 at the 5:39 mark, when Lance Herauf scored his sixth goal of the season from the right crease past Beech. The Killer Bees tied the game at 2-2 at 8:29 of the second period, as Mike Tuomi snuck the puck past Beech's right pad. Just 24 seconds later Herauf scored his second goal of the game, as he sent the puck from the slot through Beech's legs to give Rio a 3-2 lead.

After the Killer Bees took the 3-2 lead, Beech was pulled in favor of Dustin Traylen.

With a little over six minutes left in the second period Serge Dube was taken down hard into the boards by Nick Warriner, forcing Dube face down on the ice for several minutes. The Bucks (10-5-2 on the road) were then given a five-minute power-play, which Rio killed off. Dube would come back in the game later in the period.

Despite giving up three second period goals, Laredo outshot Rio 17-6, with Lemanowicz stopping 15 of 17 Bucks shots.

With 13:32 left in the third period Traylen made a sprawling save, then came down funny on his ankle and needed help to the Bucks locker room. Beech then replaced Traylen in net. As of press time there is no word of the extenet of Traylen's injury.

Lemanowicz stopped 40 of 42 Bucks shots to pick up his first win against his old team.
