Austin Ice Bats News Release

(Austin, TX) - Coming off a one goal, New Year's loss to the Corpus Christi Rayz the Bats had a Friday night matchup against the Mississippi RiverKings at Chaparral Ice Arena

The first period was a back and forth between both teams. Mississippi got on the board first with a goal from Ryan Kindret. Brian Mullally and Zach Pearson had the assists. Then the Bats tied it up on Taylor Raszka's fifth goal of the year. Ted Vandermeer added an assist. At the end of the first it was a 1-1 tie.

The second period was tightly played as well, but the Ice Bats were able to take advantage of a power play opportunity. Zech Klann scored his sixth goal of the year. Brendan Cook and John Ronan tallied the assists. That was the only goal of the second period, and it was 2-1 Austin heading into the third.

In the third Mississippi earned a power play with less than 2:00 remaining and pulled the goalie for a two man advantage, but could not find the net. There was no scoring in period three, and the Ice Bats hung on for the 2-1 victory.

Next up for the Ice Bats is a 7:35, Saturday night home contest against the Corpus Christi Rayz. The Ice Bats are 1-4 against the Rayz this year. All five games have been decided by one goal, and two of the games needed a shootout to decide a victor.

The Ice Bats are the AA Affiliate for the NHL's Minnesota Wild and the AHL's Houston Aeros (AAA). The team is currently playing its 12th season in Austin. Single game tickets and mini-plans are available by calling 512-927-7825 or visiting icebats.com.
