INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Iowa Cubs (25-16) won both games of the doubleheader over the Indianapolis Indians (20-23) on Saturday, taking game one 2-1 and winning game two by a score of 1-0.

Game one of the doubleheader saw major league rehabbers Kyle Hendricks and Vince Velasquez face off, and they did not disappoint.

Hendricks spun a season-high 6.0 innings, allowing just one earned run on five hits while striking out six. His one run allowed came in the fourth inning on an RBI single from Mark Mathias to break a scoreless tie and give Indianapolis a 1-0 lead.

One run was all Velasquez needed in his first major league rehab game with Indianapolis. The righty spun 4.2 scoreless frames, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out two batters along the way.

Iowa did their damage against the Indians bullpen, getting a run to tie the game on an RBI double from Miguel Amaya in the sixth and a go-ahead RBI single from Darius Hill in the seventh.

Up 2-1, Manuel Rodriguez entered the game and earned his team and International League-leading seventh save of the season, securing the victory for Iowa.

Game two saw great pitching again, as Hayden Wesneski made his first start with Iowa since getting optioned by Chicago earlier in the week. The righty spun five no-hit innings, walking four while striking out five.

The Indians had great pitching as well, as the opener J.C. Flowers spun a scoreless inning and Caleb Smith gave up just one run on six hits while striking out four in his six innings of work.

Iowa's lone run came in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Sergio Alcántara to go up 1-0, and that is where it would stay. Chris Clarke followed Wesneski and allowed a hit, but struck out two in his two scoreless frames to earn his first save of the year and secure the doubleheader sweep for Iowa.

POSTGAME NOTES:

Iowa's two starting pitchers combined to go 2-0 and throw 11.0 innings tonight. Over those 11.0 innings, they allowed just one run on five hits and four walks while striking out 11.
