Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - The Charlotte Knights led early and rallied late on Saturday night en route to a thrilling 7-5 win over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in game five of the six-game series from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte. Víctor Reyes drove home two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning with a single and Yolbert Sanchez drove home another run with a double in the inning to lead the Knights to victory.
The Knights jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the second inning thanks to a big four-run offensive showing. Nate Mondou started the scoring with a solo home run, his fourth of the season. The Knights added a run thanks to an RBI single from Evan Skoug. The team got two more runs in the frame courtesy of a Zach Remillard sacrifice-fly RBI and an RBI single from Oscar Colás. Charlotte held a 4-0 lead into the fifth inning.
LHP Garrett Davila, who was promoted to Charlotte from Double-A Birmingham before the game, started on Saturday and was sharp over six innings. A native of nearby Belmont, NC, Davila, 26, allowed just one run on five hits over his six frames. He struck-out five batters and left the game with a 4-1 lead. His only blemish on the night was a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to Carlos Narvaez.
With the Knights ahead by a score of 4-1, the Charlotte bullpen ran into a bit of trouble in the eighth inning. RHP Nick Padilla allowed four runs in the top of the eighth, giving the RailRiders a 5-4 lead. Padilla was charged with four runs in just 0.2 innings pitched. RHP Bryan Shaw (2-0, 0.00) earned his second win of the season in a relief effort. Shaw got out of the eighth inning jam and returned to shut the door on the RailRiders in the top of the ninth inning. He did not allow a run over 1.1 innings pitched.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Knights rallied for three runs to take the lead and held on for the team's first win of the series.
The Knights will conclude the six-game series against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees) on Sunday afternoon. The "Voice of the Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time Knights broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action on www.CharlotteKnights.com. Fans can also watch the game on the Bally Live app and MiLB.tv. First pitch on Sunday is set for 1:05 p.m. from Uptown Charlotte.
