
I-Cubs Sweep Doubleheader

The Iowa Cubs defeated the Oklahoma City RedHawks 9-2 and 4-3 Tuesday night in a doubleheader at Principal Park. Micah Hoffpauir and Bryan LaHair launched two homer each en route to a 9-2 win in game one. Casey Coleman (9-7, 4.17) threw a seven-inning complete game to pick up the victory in game one. He allowed two runs while walking one to pick up his ninth win this season. Elizardo Ramirez (4-4, 5.15) was tagged with the loss allowing seven runs on eight hits through four innings. Darwin Barney was 3-for-4 and scored two runs.
The RedHawks got on the board in the first inning when Hernan Iribarren scored on Max Ramirez's groundout. Iowa answered right back to take a 2-1 lead with Hoffpauir's first homer, a two-run shot that scored Barney. In the third inning, Sam Fuld led off with a double, followed by Barney's single. Fuld later scored before LaHair hit his first home run, also a two-run shot that scored Brad Snyder for the 6-1 Cubs advantage. Fuld had two doubles in the game and scored two runs.
In game two, Fuld gave Iowa the lead in the third inning. Down 1-0, Marquez Smith singled before Fuld hit a home run to give Iowa the 2-1 lead.
Gregorio Petit singled to start things off for Oklahoma City in the fourth inning. Next batter Kevin Richardson homered, reclaiming a 3-2 RedHawks lead. The lead wouldn't last long as Iowa posted a pair of runs in their half of the inning. Bryan LaHair doubled to start the rally. With two outs, Castillo singled and Smith then doubled home LaHair to tie the game 3-3. Castillo then scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch to take a 4-3 lead. Smith went 2-for-2 in game two.
LaHair was 3-for-5 Tuesday night while Fuld also collected three hits on the night. Fuld was hot in the field as well. He had two against-the-wall catches in the seventh inning of game two.
Iowa's Hung-Wen Chen (1-1, 5.14) pitched five innings, allowing three run on seven hits to pick up the win. The RedHawks' Tanner Scheppers (1-1, 4.34) took the loss. He allowed two runs on three hits in two innings.
The Cubs and RedHawks meet again Wednesday for a 7:05 p.m. start.
