
Angels Option Aldridge to Salt Lake, Conger Placed on DL

SALT LAKE CITY (July 20, 2010) -The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announced today that the club has optioned outfielder Cory Aldridge to Triple-A Salt Lake. The Bees also announced today that catcher Hank Conger has been placed on the Disabled List with a right rotator cuff strain. In addition, infielder Abel Nieves has been reassigned to Double-A Arkansas and catcher Beau Brooks has been promoted to Salt Lake from Arkansas.
Aldridge, 31, appeared in five games for the Angels in 2010, registering a triple and one RBI. In 67 games for the Bees this season, he owns a .309 batting average with 17 doubles, 10 home runs and 53 RBI. The San Angelo, Texas native was originally selected by the Atlanta Braves in the fourth round of the 1997 draft and joined the Angels via free agency prior to the 2010 season.
Conger, 22, has appeared in 74 games for the Bees in 2010, hitting .265 with 15 doubles, five home runs and 27 RBI. He recently participated in the 2010 MLB Futures Game and was named MVP as the U.S. defeated the World Team 9-1. In 2009, Conger appeared in 123 games for the Travelers, hitting .294 with 20 doubles and 68 RBI. The Huntington Beach, Calif. native was originally selected by the Angels in the first round of the 2006 draft.
Nieves, 24, has appeared in seven games for the Bees in 2010, hitting .188. He has also appeared in 58 games for the Travelers this season, hitting .229 with three doubles and 15 RBI. The Maracay, Venezuela native was originally selected by the Angels in the 50th round of the 2005 draft.
Brooks, 22, has appeared in three games for the Travelers in 2010, hitting .250. He has also appeared in 54 games for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga this season, hitting .158 with eight doubles and 17 RBI. Brooks made one previous appearance for the Bees in 2010, going 1-for-3 with one double and two runs on July 10. The Oklahoma City, Okla. native was originally signed by the Angels in the 20th round of the 2008 draft.
