Northern Colorado Owlz News Release

OREM - The I-15 Classic started with a bang as the two teams combined for 22 hits, but unfortunately it was the Ogden Raptors who came away with the 5-4 win. Trailing 5-3 heading to the 9th, the Orem Owlz tried sparking a comeback with Jared Foster delivering an RBI single cutting the lead in half. With two runners in scoring position, Sam Koenig crushed one to deep left field, but the ball was caught just short of the warning track for the final out.

First baseman Matt Jones led the way for the Raptors tonight hitting two homeruns, giving him a total of 10 on the season. They took the early lead in the 3rd, but Brendon Sanger responded for the Owlz hitting a 2-run shot to right field giving Orem a 2-1 lead. Although the second homerun of the night by Jones gave Ogden the lead for good, as they improved to 13-8 in the second half of the season.

The Owlz pitchers continually pounded the strike zone this evening, striking out 13 total Raptors hitters. They frequently got out of jams despite scattering 12 hits, including an inning ending double play, their league-leading 67th turned this season. Starting pitcher Jaime Barria picked up the no decision, going four strong innings while striking out five.

The loss drops Orem to 11-10 in the second half of the season. Make sure to join us at the ballpark tomorrow afternoon at 4:15 P.M. for the second game of this four game rivalry series.
