Brewers Take 2nd Straight vs. GF

August 23, 2015 - Pioneer League (PL)
Helena Brewers News Release

The Helena Brewers (6-16) won consecutive games for the first time in over a month, winning 8-4 over the Great Falls Voyagers (12-10) on Saturday in Helena.

The Voyagers got the scoring started with a solo homerun in the top of the first. Dante Flores hit his third homerun of the season, a solo shot. It was the first homer that Joshua Torres (3-3) has given up in over 36 innings of work in the Pioneer League.

Helena responded with a run of their own in the first. Jake Gatewood picked up his league-leading 23rd double of the year to score Steven Karkenny.

The Brewers went on to score 6 runs over the next two innings. Carlos Belonis added an RBI single in the second and both Belonis and David Denson hit homeruns in the third. Denson's was a solo shot and Belonis' a three-run blast.

Matt Ball (2-6) struggled for the first time this year against Helena, giving up seven runs on eight hits in his three innings of work. It would be his first loss against the Brewers this season.

Joshua Torres was excellent for the Brewers, giving up just one run in five innings. He gave up three hits and struck out a personal season-high nine batters. He is just the third Helena pitcher this season to turn in nine or more strikeouts in a single appearance.

Johan Cruz went yard for Great Falls in the top of the sixth. It was his third homerun of the year.

Denson added in his second homerun of the night in the seventh off Braulio Ortiz. It was Denson's second multi-homer game of the year.

Great Falls tacked on two more runs in the top of the eighth off Milton Gomez, but the scoring would end there.

The Brewers and Voyagers will face off in the third game of their four-game series Sunday at Kindrick Field. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
