Great Falls Voyagers News Release

HELENA, Mont. (August 23, 2015) - The Great Falls Voyagers slipped to their third straight defeat and fourth straight road loss Sunday afternoon as they fell 6-2 to the Helena Brewers at Kindrick Legion Field.

For the second straight day, Great Falls (12-11, 29-30) scored first, opening the scoring in the third. After Landon Lassiter picked up the Voyagers first hit of the afternoon with a single, Antonio Rodriguez blasted a two-run homer off Junior Rincon (4-4), to give the visitors a 2-0 lead, and push Rodriguez's team-leading RBI total to 36.

The Brewers (7-16, 23-36) had an answer in the home half of the frame. Helena put together three straight one-out hits against Brannon Easterling (5-3), with a double by Troy Stokes bringing home the first tally for the Brewers. Stokes then scampered home later in the inning on a wild pitch to tie the score.

Helena then took the lead in the very next inning. Milan Post gave the home team their first lead of the afternoon with a sacrifice fly, then Carlos Belonis homered for the second straight day, a two-run shot, to make it 5-2.

The final run of the afternoon came in the fifth, when the Brewers loaded the bases with nobody out, settling for one run on a fielder's choice from Jose Cuas.

Rincon did not allow much in his first start of the campaign, yielding just the two runs and three hits in five innings of work. He was followed by Christian Trent who threw a scoreless sixth, and Nate Griep who kept Great Falls off the board for the final three innings to earn his first save.

The Voyager bullpen was strong as well, as the duo of Drew Hasler and Alex Katz combined to retire all nine they faced, with Katz striking out the side in the eighth. Overall, Great Falls pitching set down the final 11 Brewers they faced on the afternoon.

The offense was a different story for the visitors as they managed just four hits, which tied their lowest output of the season.

The Voyagers and Brewers close out their set with their final meeting of 2015 Monday night at Kindrick Legion Field. Great Falls will send righty Lucas Shearrow (1-3, 3.78) to the hill, while Helena will counter with fellow right-hander Conor Harber (0-0, 4.15). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., and coverage will begin at 6:50 on 1400 AM KXGF and gfvoyagers.com.
