DOWN THE SHORE: The Renegades continue their Independence Week series with the Jersey Shore BlueClaws tonight at ShoreTown Ballpark. The Gades have won the first three games of the series with the BlueClaws by a combined 24-4 margin. This is the third of five series played between Jersey Shore and Hudson Valley this season, with the first two being fairly evenly matched.

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Renegades scored four in the third and never looked back as they defeated the Jersey Shore BlueClaws 7-1 on Thursday night. Blas Castaño was terrific, allowing one run on five hits in 6.0 innings while striking out eight. Spencer Henson launched a two-run homer in the fourth, and Everson Pereira had three hits and three RBIs.

GONE STREAKING: Hudson Valley has won five straight games, tying for the longest winning streak of the season. The Renegades previously won five straight against Jersey Shore and Greensboro from June 11 - 17.

PINSTRIPED PITCHING PROWESS: Strength in pitching is a theme across the New York Yankees minor league system and the Renegades are no exception. The staff sports a 3.49 ERA on the season, the second-best in the South Atlantic League (Wilmington, 3.37). It also ranks as the fourth-best staff ERA in High-A, and the ninth-best in the minor leagues. All four Yankees affiliated teams rank in the top 25 in the minors in ERA -- Somerset 3.39, 6th; Tampa 3.64, 11th; Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 3.83, 21st.

LET'S TALK ABOUT THE STEALS: The Renegades stole 11 bases in Wednesday's game at Jersey Shore, the most of any team in the minor leagues this season. It was the most in a game since the Hillsboro Hops (ARZ, A+) stole 11 against the Everett AquaSox (SEA) on May 7, 2021. Before that, the last full-season MiLB team to steal 11 was the Burlington Bees against the Fort Wayne TinCaps in an 18-inning game on April 16, 2014. Those are the only three instances of 11 steals in a single game in full-season leagues since 2005. Both Hudson Valley and Everett accomplished their prolific steal totals without being caught.

LET'S TALK MORE ABOUT THE STEALS: With Carlos Narvaez's steal of third base in the seventh inning on Wednesday, the Renegades stole their collective 150th base of the season to set a new franchise record. It took only 77 games to break the record that was set by the 2021 Renegades in 120 games. The Gades stole three more bases after that to finish with 153 after the record-breaking performance.

BUT HAVE I MENTIONED THE STEALS?: Not only did the Renegades set a new club record with 11 steals on Wednesday, but they also stole more bases in a single game than any South Atlantic League team has since 2005. Since that point, only three other times has a SAL team stolen 10 bases, with the most recent instance coming on July 1, 2013 when the Rome Braves stole 10 at the Charleston RiverDogs.

THIS NOTE IS NOT ABOUT STEALS...JK, IT IS: Cooper Bowman stole his 30th base of the season on Wednesday, making him the third player in Renegades history to steal 30 in a single season. He joins Jake Fraley (33 in 2016) and Michael Ross (30 in 2007). James Nelson also stole his 32nd base with the Renegades across two seasons, placing him one shy of Fraley's franchise record.

PEREIRA YARD WORK: Everson Pereira continues his assault on the Renegades record book, and enters play Wednesday just one home run shy of the all-time franchise record. Pereira has been on a roll in the last two-and-a-half weeks, clubbing five long balls, including a pair of two-homer games. The Yankees No. 3 prospect (Baseball America) has five career multi-homer games, including four with Hudson Valley.

Pereira also sits at 71 career RBIs with the Renegades, placing him second behind Jacson McGowan, who had 82 from 2018-19.

DOUBLE DIGIT DINGERS: Tyler Hardman's fourth-inning home run on Saturday night against Brooklyn was his 10th of the season, making him the first Renegade to reach double figures this season. In 2021, the Renegades had five players reach double digits in home runs, led by Josh Breaux's 17. Before last year, the last Renegade to hit 10-or-more home runs was Hunter Lockwood in 2014 (13). In Hudson Valley's entire Short Season Era (1994-2019), only six players reached double figures in home runs in a season. It had only been done three times since the start of the 2000 season.

TWO '21 GADES HEADED TO FUTURES GAME: MLB released the rosters for the 2022 MLB All-Star Futures Game this week, and the list features several familiar names to Hudson Valley. Both Anthony Volpe and Ken Waldichuk were selected to participate in the prestigious showcase. Jasson Dominguez, currently with Single-A Tampa, was also selected to represent the Yankees, who were one of only two organizations (LAD) to have three players selected.
