Iowa Wolves News Release
DES MOINES, Iowa - The Memphis Hustle swept the Iowa Wolves in a two-game series with a 136-132 victory on Wednesday night at Wells Fargo Arena.
For the second-straight game, Memphis (2-1) erased a late Iowa (0-4) lead. Minnesota assignment Leonard Miller, who scored a career-high 35 points, gave the Wolves a four-point advantage with 39.9 seconds to go.
On the Hustle's possession, Matthew Hurt made a deep three-pointer from the left wing as Miller was called for a flagrant foul on the play. Hurt had two free throws attempts to make one and made his second try to even the score at 132-all. Memphis kept the ball and took the lead for good with Hurt's putback after Memphis Grizzlies' assignment Jake LaRavia's missed three try. LaRavia finished with 27 points.
Iowa nearly took the lead back as Trevor Keels three was just off the mark and then D.J. Carton's putback dunk attempt on the miss was off the mark. However, Memphis retained ball back after an off-the-ball foul was called on Iowa's Tyrese Martin. LaRavia made both free throws to seal the win.
Minnesota assignment Wendell Moore Jr. scored 21 points while Carton finished with 19 points and Keels had 17 off the bench. Martin scored 15 points.
Memphis forced 14 turnovers by Iowa that led to 23 points. For the second consecutive game, the Hustle connected on 19 three-pointers as five players made two or more. Jacob Gilyard, who scored with 19 points, made five threes. Gilyard scored his team's first 11 points of the game.
The Wolves will enjoy a break before playing next on Jan. 10 when they visit the G League Ignite for a 9 p.m. CT matchup on ESPN+.
