Memphis Hustle News Release
The Memphis Hustle will play two games in Las Vegas this week as part of the MGM Resorts NBA G League Winter Showcase. The Hustle will play against two Eastern Conference opponents, Raptors 905 on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 2 p.m. CT and Wisconsin Herd on Thursday, Dec. 20 at 2:30 p.m. CT, at Mandalay Bay Convention Center.
The games are nationally televised on ESPNU (Wednesday) and NBA TV (Thursday). Memphis is 3-0 against Eastern Conference competition this season.
The Hustle will be with both two-way players and Grizzlies forward Ivan Rabb is expected to be with the team on assignment.
Raptors 905 comes into the matchup with a 12-5 record and a second place standing in the Eastern Conference. Chris Boucher, on a two-way contract with the Raptors, is perhaps the most dynamic and productive player in the league. Boucher leads the league in scoring (29.6 ppg) while averaging 11.5 boards and a league-leading 4.79 blocks per game. Jordan Loyd paces the Raptors backcourt with 22.7 points, 5.5 assists and 5.3 rebounds per game. This is the first ever meeting between the Hustle and Raptors 905.
The Hustle and Herd finished with identical 21-29 records last season, but the Herd are managing just a 3-13 record entering this season's Showcase. Mainly due to the team ranking last in the league in points allowed (117.5 ppg) which should favor the Hustle nicely (114.8 ppg). The team does have some pop when Christian Wood is on assignment. In eight games, he is averaging 27.0 points and 12.1 rebounds per game.
Hustle forward Kyle Casey spent the 2017-18 season with the Herd and played in 15 minutes in last season's matchup between the two teams on Feb. 3, the only other meeting in history between the Hustle and Herd. The Hustle overcame a 24-point first half deficit to win 104-85, holding a 58-24 advantage in the second half (28-7 in the fourth quarter).
