Huskies Come up Short in Back-And-Forth Battle

After the game was suspended do to inclement weather on Thursday, the Huskies and Larks continued action on Friday afternoon. The game picked up in the bottom of the second in a game tied at four. After Augie Isaacson scored in the top of fourth to give the Huskies a 5-4 lead, the Larks quickly responded with two of their own in the home half to reclaim the lead at 6-5. In the sixth inning, Bradley Norton came home to score after a wild pitch. Later, Ben McClain singled to center and drove in Isaacson to put Duluth back on top 7-6, but Bismarck would not go away. The Larks answered with one run in the eighth to tie the game at seven. In the ninth inning, Alex Mardiney came up clutch as he sent a homerun over the wall in left field after a long 11 pitch at-bat to give the Huskies the lead and their first homerun of the season. However, the Larks would take advantage of a pair of Duluth errors that lead to two runs to give them the win in walk-off fashion 9-8.

The Huskies pitchers had another strong outing as Colan Treml, Kieren Shaw, Michael O'Connor, Levi Shandrew, and Kevin Folman combined for 13 strikeouts. Defense hindered Duluth in this game as they committed four errors that would prove to be costly in the end. The Huskies next game will be Friday night at 7:35 against Bismarck as part of a day-night doubleheader against the Larks. Duluth will finish up its opening road trip Saturday, June 2 against Eau Claire in Carson Park at 6:35.
