Honkers Walk-Off Winners

(Rochester, Minn.) - For the second night in a row there was a walk-off between the Rochester Honkers (2-2) and the Waterloo Bucks (1-3). This time, it was the Honkers who pulled off the 5-4 win at Mayo Field.

With Benjamin Sems (Kansas) on first, Ryan Casper (Point Loma Nazarene) drove a double to the right center gap to score Sems and end the game. It was the first walk-off win of the year for Rochester.

Casper finished the game with three hits and three RBIs and bumped his batting average up to .571 on the year. Chandler Cannon (Walters State) got the start for Honkers and lasted 4 1/3 innings surrendering four runs on five hits and struck out six. Zak Devermann shut the door for the Honkers finishing the remaining 4 2/3 innings giving up no runs and striking out five to earn his first win of the season.

Casper drove in his first run of the game with a double to put the Honkers on top in the first. The Bucks came back with two runs in the second, Trey Leonard (Louisville) hit a sacrifice fly to bring a run home. Skyler Messinger (Kansas) hit an infield single to bring home one more. The Honkers immediately responded with two runs of their own as Derek Scott hit a sacrifice fly to right and Sems drew a walk with the bases loaded.

In the fourth, Casper singled to left to drive in his second RBI of the game and extend the Honkers lead to two. The lead was short-lived as the Bucks came back to tie the game in the fifth after a bases loaded walk and a RBI infield single from Leonard.

The Honkers will visit the La Crosse Loggers this Saturday and Sunday, first pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. and 5:05 p.m. respectively. Rochester will be back at Mayo Field Monday for a match-up with the Waterloo Bucks. Monday is Reusable Tote Bag Night presented by F&M Community Bank and Y-105FM. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
