Hurricanes Recall Ryan Murphy from Charlotte

RALEIGH, NC - Ron Francis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the Hurricanes have recalled defenseman Ryan Murphy from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL). Murphy competed for the Western Conference team in Monday's AHL All-Star Game in Utica, NY, recording three assists and a game-best plus-5 plus/minus rating in the Western Conference's 14-12 win.

Murphy, 21, has earned five assists in 16 NHL games for the Hurricanes this season. The Aurora, Ont., native leads all Charlotte skaters in assists this season with 17 helpers in 25 AHL games. The Hurricanes' first round selection, 12th overall, in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Murphy (5'11", 185 lbs.) has skated in 68 career NHL games with Carolina, totaling 17 points (2g, 15a).
