Reading, PA- Hunter Goodman cranked his Eastern League leading 18th home run on Thursday night, but the Hartford Yard Goats lost to the Reading Fightins 8-3 at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, Pennsylvania. The Yard Goats slugger gave Hartford a 1-0 lead with a solo blast in the first inning, while collecting his EL best 56th RBI. Goodman already ranks tied for 4th with the most homers in single season Yard Goats history. Michael Toglia and Brenton Doyle each hit a club record 23 home run's last season. Reading's Nick Podkul broke a 2-2 tie with an RBI single in the sixth inning to give the Fightins a 3-2 lead. Yard Goats starter Joe Rock pitched 5.1 innings and allowed just three runs and had three strikeouts.
Hunter Goodman gave the Yard Goats a 1-0 lead, as the second batter of the game belted a home run over the left field fence off Phillies #2 prospect Mick Abel. However, the Fightins scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead against Yard Goats starter Joe Rock. Madison Stokes led off with a double and Carlos De La Cruz followed with a triple which tied the game at 1-1. Johan Rojas' infield grounder scored De La Cruz, giving Reading a 2-1 lead.
The Yard Goats tied the game in the second inning with a two-out rally with back-to-back doubles. Colin Simpson cracked a double down the right field line and scored on a double to left by Cristopher Navarro and it was 2-2 after two innings.
The Fightins took a 3-2 lead with three straight hits to open the sixth inning. Rojas led off with a double, and Nick Podkul drove him home on a hit to make it 3-2 Reading. Austin Kitchen came in and got the final two batters of the inning.
Leading 3-2 after six innings, the Fightins scored four runs without a hit in the seventh to take a 7-2 lead. Reading added on with three walks, two hit batsman, an error, and a sacrifice fly to beat the Yard Goats for the second time in three games.
The Yard Goats continue their road trip against the Reading Fightin Phils Friday night (7:00 PM) at FirstEnergy Stadium. RHP Chris McMahon will start for the Yard Goats and RHP Griff McGarry will pitch for the Fightins56. The game will be broadcast on AM 1410, FM 100.9 and on the iheart radio app. The Yard Goats return home to Dunkin' Park next Tuesday (7:10 PM) to host the Erie SeaWolves.
