Hunt Placed On D.L., Bellamy Promoted To Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (APRIL 16, 2010) - The Winston-Salem Dash today placed relief pitcher Leroy Hunt on the disabled list and received reliever Kyle Bellamy from Single-A Kannapolis.

Hunt suffered an injury in Thursday night's ten-inning 7-6 win over the Potomac Nationals. He started the tenth inning, but was removed from the game after walking the only batter he faced. Hunt was 0-0 with a 9.00 in four appearances prior to the injury.

To fill Hunt's roster spot, the Dash received RHP Kyle Bellamy, who started the season with the Kannapolis Intimidators. In four South Atlantic League appearances, Bellamy was 0-0 with a 1.80 ERA and struck out six batters in five innings pitched.

Bellamy entered the season ranked as the 24th-best prospect in the Chicago White Sox system according to Baseball America. He split 2009 between Bristol and Kannapolis, going 2-0 with a 1.23 ERA and three saves in 20 relief appearances.

The Davie, Florida native was drafted in the fifth round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Miami, where he starred as the Hurricanes' closer in his junior season. With the 'Canes in 2009, he posted a 3-1 record with a 0.97 ERA, striking out 63 batters in 46.1 innings pitched. He was among the national leaders in saves with 16 in 16 opportunities. Bellamy was named a 2009 postseason All-American by Baseball America, Rivals.com, and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

The Dash roster remains at 24 players, one below the Carolina League limit.

Winston-Salem begins a three-game series with the Kinston Indians tonight at BB&T Ballpark. LHP Charlie Leesman (0-1, 3.00) makes his second start for the Dash against Kinston's Alex White (1-0, 0.00).
