
Lynchburg Smacks Season-High 14 Hits

The Hillcats edged the Keys in game one of a three-game series with a season-high 14 hits in a 5-4 victory in Frederick. Game two of the set takes place on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at Harry Grove Stadium.
Josh Fellhauer ignited the Hillcats offense with a home run out to right on the second pitch of the game. It was the second home run of the season for the former Cal State Fullerton Titan.
The Keys would answer that long ball with one of their own in the third inning to tie the game at at one. Billy Rowell smacked the solo shot out to the opposite field in left.
Lynchburg responded with another homer, a two-run home run by Devin Mesoraco to give the them a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning. The Cats had only homered twice on the season coming into the game, and they homered twice in the opening game of the three-game series at Frederick.
In the fifth, the Hillcats tacked on another run in the fifth when Alex Buchholz smacked a two-out RBI double to make it a 4-1 game.
In the eighth inning Frederick would plate their second run with another homer, another solo shot that was by Keys catcher Brian Ward.
In the ninth inning Lynchburg got an insurance ru that they would eventually need. Fellhauer drove-in his second run of the night with an RBI ground out to push the Cats lead to three at 5-2.
The Keys would start the bottom of the ninth inning with the first three reaching to load the bases with nobody out. Two runs would score in the inning and the Keys had the tying and game-winning runs aboard, but Justin Freeman struck out Ward to end the threat, preserve the victory and pick-up his first save of the season.
Hillcat starter Brad Boxberger (1-0) struck out six in five innings and only allowed one run to earn his first win for the Hillcats (4-4) who are no tied a top the Northern Division. The loss went to starter Nate Nery (0-1) for the Keys (4-4).
The middle-game of the three-game series takes place on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. with lefty Travis Webb (0-0, 0.00) getting the nod for the the Cats opposite fellow lefty Cole McCurry (0-0, 2.25).
