
Hugo Arellano Called up to U.S. U17 Men's National Team

CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014) - Chivas USA's Youth Development Academy defender Hugo Arellano has been called up to the United States U17 Men's National Team by Head Coach Richie Williams. The Stars and Stripes are set to compete in the Aegean Cup that will take place in Manisa, Turkey from Jan. 20-25.
The United States National Team has been seeded in Group B alongside the Norwegian National Team, Scotland's National Team, and the tournament's reigning champion, France. Group A consists of the National Teams from Azerbaijan, Greece, Ukraine, and host country Turkey. The winner of both groups will play the Championship Match on Saturday, Jan. 25; the third and fourth place match will be played the same day.
Arellano and the U.S. U17 Men's National Team will face France in their first match on Jan. 20, match-up against Norway the following day, and close the group phase against Scotland on Jan. 23.
Chivas USA's U16 defender is among the four selected players that are coming from a Major League Soccer club Academy. Prior to this invitation, Arellano recently joined the U-17 MNT in Florida for several international friendlies in the months of November and December. The Norwalk, Calif., native matched up against England and Portugal's U17s in the 2013 Nike International, where they were eventually crowned champions.
