Houston Dynamo FC News Release
PHILADELPHIA (Wednesday, January 15, 2014) - The Houston Dynamo enter tomorrow's 2014 MLS SuperDraft with one selection in each of the draft's two rounds. The Dynamo hold the No. 16 and No. 32 overall selections. The draft, held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, will begin at 11 a.m. CT and will be broadcast live on ESPN News.
Last year, Houston selected forward Jason Johnson out of Virginia Commonwealth University with the No. 13 overall selection. The club also selected defender Anthony Arena out of Wake Forest University in the first round of the 2013 Supplemental Draft.
Seven current Dynamo players were acquired by Houston via the SuperDraft or Supplemental Draft. Defender Kofi Sarkodie, who was named Dynamo Defender of the Year and Ironman of the Year in 2013, and forward Will Bruin, who set a franchise record with 16 goals in all competitions in 2012, were both selected in the first round of the 2011 draft.
Midfielder Warren Creavalle, the 2013 Dynamo Young Player of the Year, was selected by Houston in the second round of the 2012 draft. Midfielder Brian Ownby was picked by the Dynamo in the 2012 Supplemental Draft. Veteran left back Corey Ashe was chosen by Houston in the 2007 SuperDraft.
Following the first two rounds of the SuperDraft on Thursday, the third and fourth rounds will be held on Tuesday, January 21, via conference call. The Dynamo hold one selection in the third round, No. 54 overall. The full draft order can be found here.
The Dynamo begin preseason on Monday, Jan. 27 and open the 2014 MLS season on Saturday, March 8 when they host the New England Revolution at BBVA Compass Stadium. Season tickets for the 2014 season are available now by calling (713) 276-GOAL or at www.HoustonDynamo.com.
