Colorado Rapids News Release
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Wednesday, December 15, 2014) - The Colorado Rapids announced on Wednesday that the club has re-signed defenders Brenton Griffiths and Kory Kindle to new contracts. Per league and team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
"Brenton and Kory both made good strides last year in their development, and we're happy to have them back this year," said Rapids Technical Director Paul Bravo. "They have a great deal of potential and we look forward to their continued growth and development."
A native of Spanish Towne, Jamaica, Griffiths was drafted 25th overall in the second round of the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft. Griffiths, 22, made his MLS debut at San Jose on May 18, his only appearance of the season, and featured in all 14 of the Rapids Reserve matches. In November, it was announced that Griffiths had undergone successful shoulder surgery and would miss about four months while recovering.
Kindle, a 22-year-old left back, was selected by the Colorado Rapids with the 25th overall selection in the second round of the 2013 MLS SuperDraft. The Ventura, Calif. native did not make a regular season appearance for the Rapids in 2013, though he started seven Reserve League games. In late August, Kindle suffered a sprained ankle and while recovering from that injury, doctors discovered a sports hernia which was surgically repaired in September.
Colorado holds the 11th overall selection in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft, to take place tomorrow in Philadelphia, and the Rapids will open preseason in late January. The Rapids season starts on March 15 at New York Red Bulls, with the Home Opener at Dick's Sporting Goods Park against the Portland Timbers on March 22.
