Spokane Indians News Release

Spokane, WA - The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes brushed off a slow start against the Indians starting pitcher David Perez (0-1) to knock out 18 hits in a 14-2 win on Opening Night in front of 6,166 fans at Avista Stadium.

The 18-year-old Perez cruised through the first two innings, striking out five of the first six batters he faced, before allowing a run in the third on a Daniel Burkhart RBI single. The Volcanoes pushed three more runs across the board in the top of fourth against Perez, who was relieved by left-hander Chris Hanna. Hanna didn't fare any better, allowing five runs in his one inning of work, including an opposite field home run from Mike Murray.

Volcanoes starting pitcher Cameron Lamb (1-0) kept Indians hitters off balance all night long, allowing just one run and four hits in five innings. Spokane went a combined 0-8 with runners in scoring position, while the Volcanoes thrived in the clutch, hitting 10-21 in similar situations.

The Indians scored on a Hanser Alberto RBI triple in the fifth inning and a slicing home run to right field from catcher Jorge Alfaro in the eighth. Alfaro finished 2-3, while Rougned Odor, Nick Vickerson, Guillermo Pimentel, and Ruben Sierra all chipped in one hit.

The Indians welcomed a new mascot to their promotional lineup courtesy of Shriners Hospitals for Children. The name of the second ever Spokaneasaurus will be announced after the conclusion of a naming contest that runs through Tuesday.
