
C's open 2011 season with 3-2 victory over Yakima

(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, BC) - Canadians (1-0) DH Roan Salas doubled to lead off the bottom of the 8th before scoring on a single from RF Nick Baligod helping Vancouver to a 3-2 victory over the Yakima Bears (0-1) in front of a sellout crowd on Friday night.
The C's opened the scoring in the bottom of the 3rd inning when SS Shane Opitz drew a walk off of Yakima starter RHP Brad Wilson who then gave up a double to CF Jon Jones. Jones would come around to score on a double off the bat of 3B Balbino Fuenmayor giving the C's a 2-0 lead.
The Bears responded in the top of the 4th inning getting to Canadians starter RHP Zack Breault after the Canadian-born pitcher retired the first eight hitters he faced. Yakima would plate a pair of runs including a single off the bat of 1B Jimmy Comerota that scored 3B Tyler Bream tying the game at 2-2.
Vancouver would regain the lead with RF Nick Baligod's RBI single in the bottom of the 8th scoring DH Roan Salas before giving way to Canadians closer RHP Drew Permison who slammed the door on the Bears offensive aspirations in the 9th inning to lock down Vancouver's first victory of the season.
The Canadians and Bears will play game two of this five-game series out at Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium on Saturday, June 18th, 2011 at 7:05pm. Post-Game Fireworks are presented by FortisBC.
