Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release

The Bridgeport Bluefish scored seven runs in the 11th inning to defeat the Blue Crabs 12-9 Tuesday night at Regency Furniture Stadium. It was the second consecutive extra inning game for the two clubs, after Bridgeport beat the Crabs in 10 on Monday.

Southern Maryland carried a 5-4 lead into the ninth, but a leadoff homer by Bluefish leftfielder Steve Moss sent the game into extras. Bridgeport then capitalized on two Blue Crab errors and batted around in the 11th. Catcher Tom Pennino had a two RBI single, and shortstop Brandon Chaves followed with an RBI double. Meanwhile, rightfielder Danny Putnam reached base on an error and scored on another defensive miscue.

The Blue Crabs answered back with four runs in the bottom of the inning courtesy of homers by second baseman David Espinosa and leftfielder Greg Porter. It was Espinosa's first home run as a Blue Crab, and Porter's second.

Unfortunately it was too little too late as Bridgeport held on for the win. Centerfielder Jeremy Owens hit two homers earlier in the game, giving him 18 on the year.

The Blue Crabs will return to action Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. for the series finale against the Bridgeport Bluefish. LHP Brandon Mann (0-2, 6.10) will start for Southern Maryland opposite RHP Kevin Mannix (11-6, 4.38) for Bridgeport.
