
Patriots Rally for Ten Inning Win Over the Ducks

Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots defeated the Long Island Ducks 5-4 in ten innings at TD Bank Ballpark on Tuesday evening.
Somerset answered a Ducks run in the top of the tenth inning with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. Designated hitter Joe Burke singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by third baseman Jeff Nettles to tie up the game at 4-4. After first baseman Noah Hall drew a walk, right fielder Michael Hernandez drove him home with a game-winning double to left center
The Ducks broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the tenth inning. Right fielder Matt Esquival drew a walk and later scored on an RBI single by shortstop Matt Cavagnaro for a 4-3 lead.
The Patriots rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie up the game and force extra innings. First baseman Josh Pressley drew a walk and was pinch run for by Hall. Hernandez followed with a single to put runners on first and second. Catcher Jason Belcher followed with an RBI double to plate Hall and a sacrifice fly by second baseman Elliott Ayala knotted the game up at 3-3.
The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Center fielder Wayne Lydon singled and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Pressley.
The Ducks tied up the game with a run in the top of the third inning. Cavagnaro tripled and scored on an RBI single by right fielder Billy Kovatch to make the score 1-1.
Long Island took a 2-1 lead with a run in the top of the sixth inning on a solo home run by Esquival (16). The Ducks extended the lead on another solo home run by Esquival (17) for a 3-1 advantage.
Patriots reliever Ben Grezlovski (8-3) picked up the win, allowing a run on a hit in two innings pitched. Ducks reliever Kane Davis (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing two runs on two hits in 0.2 innings pitched.
The Somerset Patriots 2010 Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Wednesday night with a 6:35 pm game against the Ducks. The game includes Halloween Night and Baseball Bingo.
