Lowell, MA (8/31/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Lowell Spinners by a score of 12-6 on Monday evening at LeLacheur Park. With the result, the Renegades saw their record improve to 36-32 while Lowell fell to 34-35.

Hudson Valley scored two runs in the top of the first inning as right fielder Joe McCarthy was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and moved to second base on a single from center fielder Angel Moreno. Both runners were brought home later in the inning on a two-run single from third baseman Joseph Astacio to give the Renegades a 2-0 lead.

The 'Gades batted around in the top of the second inning and scored four runs to take a 6-0 lead, highlighted by a two-run double from Moreno and a RBI single from first baseman Hector Montes. That ended the night for Lowell's starting pitcher Javier Rodriguez (0-5) as he took the loss after allowing six runs and four earned runs off five hits in one and a third innings pitched.

Lowell responded in the bottom of the fourth inning as they sent nine batters to the plate and scored five runs, with RBI singles from each designated hitter Austin Rei, center fielder Tate Matheny and shortstop Jeremy Rivera and a RBI double from right fielder Kyri Washington.

The back-and-forth battle continued with the Renegades scoring five runs in the top of the fifth inning. Center fielder Garrett Whitley reached on a throwing error and after designated hitter Nic Wilson walked, second baseman Oscar Sanay reached on a fielding error allowing Whitley to score. Hudson Valley extended their lead to 9-5 when both Wilson and Sanay scored on shortstop Michael Russell's two-run triple. A RBI sacrifice fly from Moreno brought home Russell to bring the score to 10-5 and back-to-back doubles from Montes and catcher Taylor Hawkins, with Hawkins's being of the RBI variety, extended the Renegades advantage to 11-5.

Lowell scored a run in the bottom of the seventh on a RBI single from Washington to cut the gap to 11-6. The Renegades responded with a run scored of their own in the top of the eighth inning as with two outs, Sanay walked and moved to third base on a single from right fielder Manny Sanchez. With Russell batting, a wild pitch allowed Sanay to score, giving Hudson Valley a 12-6 lead.

The win went to Hudson Valley's Tomas Michelson (1-0) as he pitched two scoreless innings in relief and struck out a pair of batters.

Notes: With Michael Russell's two-run triple in the top of the fifth inning, he has now reached base safely in five of his last six games played. During that stretch, the Renegades shortstop has scored nine runs including three runs on Monday evening. He now has scored 46 runs in 57 games played in 2015, which is good for the team lead and is ranked second for runs scored in the New York-Penn League as well.
