Frederick Keys News Release

MYRTLE BEACH, SC -- The Frederick Keys (2-3) bats came out fresh after the All-Star Break as Ryan Hubele drove in five, while Mario Delgado drove in four, leading the Keys to a 16-4 win over the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (2-4).

Jeff Fiorentino had five hits, while Nick Markakis had four of the Keys 20 hits, as they battered the Pelicans pitching staff.

Delgado got the Keys started in the top of the first inning with a two-run home run off Sean White, giving the Keys an early 2-0 lead.

In the top of the third the Keys would extend the lead as Jeff Fiorentino hit a three-run home run, his eighth, off White to give the Keys a 5-0 lead. Nate Spears also drove in a run with a single up the middle, as the Keys would score six runs overall in the third inning taking an 8-0 lead.

The Keys offense was not done as Dustin Yount, Nick Markakis and Fiorentino led off the fourth inning with three consecutive triples before Ryan Hubele hit a grand slam off Wes Letson, over the left field wall for his fourth home run of the season.

Hubele would drive in another run in the fifth inning as his ground out to shortstop Jaime Trejo scored Markakis. Two batters later Bryan Bass doubled to drive in Fiorentino giving the Keys a 14-0 edge.

In the sixth inning after Bryan Digby hit Jarod Rine with a pitch Mario Delgado blasted a two-run shot over the right field wall for his second of the game and 13th of the season, putting the Keys ahead 16-0.

The Pelicans would get on the scoreboard, scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, highlighted by a three-run home run by Matt Esquivel. But the Keys would hold Myrtle Beach scoreless the rest of the way to win 16-4 in the first of their post-All-Star Break three game series.

James Johnson improved to 6-4, by lasting 6.0 shutout innings allowing five hits, while striking out four. Carlos Jan gave up his first runs since being promoted from Delmarva, giving up all four Pelicans runs in one inning of work. Beau Hale continues to work his way back after two seasons of injuries, tossing 2.0 scoreless, one-hit innings.

White (8-3) took the loss allowing eight runs, six earned on seven hits over 2.2 innings. Wes Letson did not fair any better allowing four runs on six hits in 0.1 inning.

The Keys play two more with Myrtle Beach before taking on Lynchburg for three games. The Keys return home on Wednesday July, 6th to play three with Myrtle Beach. Tickets are still available by calling the Keys Box Office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or by visiting www.frederickkeys.com.
