JUPITER, Fla. (July 8, 2015) - The Fort Myers Miracle edged the Jupiter Hammerheads, 3-2, with the help of seven innings from starter Chih-Wei Hu on Wednesday night at Roger Dean Stadium.

The Miracle opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Zack Granite led off with a single through the right side, then advanced to second when right fielder Cameron Flynn bobbled the ball in the outfield. Engelb Vielma then laid down a sacrifice bunt to push Granite to third. Mitch Garver hit a fly ball into center field and Granite scored on the sacrifice fly, 1-0.

Jupiter answered in the top of the second against Hu (5-2). Avery Romero doubled down the left field line to start the inning. Justin Bohn then hit a pop fly in foul territory down the first base line. Bryan Haar made an over the shoulder catch for the first out, but Romero advanced to third base. Harold Riggins then drove a full count pitch into center. Jason Kanzler made the catch while Romero trotted home to score on the sacrifice fly, 1-1.

Pushing ahead in the third inning, Granite reached second base on a missed pop up by catcher Chris Hoo. On a 1-2 pitch from Jupiter starter Jorgan Cavanerio, Granite hit a ball skyward in front of home plate. Hoo stumbled underneath the ball and could not make the catch. Granite never stopped running and reached second base safely. Then, with Vielma at the dish, Granite swiped third. The Hammerheads brought the infield in and Vielma deposited a soft liner over Romero's head to bring in Granite, 2-1.

Hu would not relinquish another run in his seven innings. On 87 pitches, Hu threw 60 strikes to scattere five hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

Vielma was the catalyst for the offense again in the eighth. After a lead-off single to right field, Vielma advanced to second on a ground ball out from Garver. Then, a pair of wild pitches from Jupiter reliever Tyler Higgins allowed Vielma to race home and extend the Miracle lead to 3-1.

Nick Burdi came in out of the Miracle bullpen in the eighth and posted a perfect frames. Returning for the ninth, Burdi struck out MLB rehabber Martin Prado to start the inning, but allowed a single to Austin Dean. Then, Brian Anderson hit a grounder to deep short. Vielma grabbed the ball and made a jump throw to second, but the shortstop's throw was in the dirt and Dean pushed to third while Anderson moved up to second. Vielma exited the game with an injury.

Burdi then surrendered a sacrifice fly to Romero to cut the Miracle lead to 3-2. With the tying run at second base, Burdi struck out Justin Bohn to end the game and earn his second save with the Miracle.

With five consecutive wins, Fort Myers is now tied for first place in the Florida State League South Division with the Palm Beach Cardinals.

The Miracle (48-36, 10-4) will bid for the sweep of the Hammerheads on Thursday afternoon at Roger Dean Stadium. First pitch is slated for 12:05 p.m. Fans can listen to every pitch with the "Voice of the Miracle" Brice Zimmerman on www.miraclebaseball.com.
