Moose Jaw Warrior Brett Howden was selected 27th overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning at the 2016 NHL Entry Draft in Buffalo, New York.

Last year Howden had 24 goals and 64 points in 68 games and finished fourth in team scoring. During the 2016 WHL Playoffs he had four goals and 15 points in 10 games and was tied for third in team scoring.

6667511239500From Oakbank, Manitoba, Howden was selected 5th overall by the Warriors in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft, in his rookie season in 2014-2015 he finished with 22 goals and 46 points in 68 games and was 5th in the WHL in rookie scoring.

Howden took part in the 2016 NHL/CHL Top Prospects game along with teammates Noah Gregor and Zach Sawchenko. He competed at the 2016 IIHF World Under-18 Championships, he had five goals and eight points in six games and was named one of Canada's top three players at the tournament. Coming up next month he will take part in Hockey Canada's World Junior Summer Development Camp.

Howden was the captain of Canada's 2015 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup gold medal winning team. He also competed at the 2015 World Under-18 Championships as an underage, he had two goals and three points in three games and captured a bronze medal. At the 2014 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge he had two goals and three points in five games for Canada White.
