Buffalo, New York - The Regina Pats congratulate Centre Sam Steel on being drafted by the Anaheim Ducks. He was taken in the first round, 30th overall during the 2016 NHL Draft in Buffalo, New York.
The Sherwood Park, Alberta native had a strong year for the Regina Pats during the 2015-16 Season. He played in all 72 games, tallying 70 points (23G, 47A). Sam added to his totals during a strong playoff performance, averaging more than a point a game. Over 12 games in the post season he managed 16 points (6G, 10A).
Sam earned a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2015 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. He also received a roster spot on Team Cherry for the 2016 CHL Top Prospects game.
Steel is the first Regina Pats player chosen in the 2016 NHL Draft. Forward Adam Brooks, the reigning WHL Scoring Champion is the other Pat player hoping to hear his name called. A total of 210 players are chosen over seven rounds.
