Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON, TX (Monday, June 22, 2009) -- The Houston Dynamo Youth Development System, presented by StatoilHydro, will hold its Dynamo Girls Elite Camp July 27-30 at the Houston Express South Campus, located at 10001 Stella Link. The four-day camp will run from 5:30-8:30 p.m. each day. The event will be highlighted by the appearance of Washington Freedom midfielder Sarah Huffman, who will join the coaching staff for the first two days of the camp.
Huffman, from Flower Mound, Texas, played collegiate soccer at the University of Virginia and was part of the United States squad that won the 2002 FIFA U-19 World Cup. Huffman, currently injured, is expected to rejoin the Freedom shortly after the Dynamo Girls Elite Camp and return to the field in time for the Women's Professional Soccer playoffs.
"We're thrilled to be able to offer an elite camp for girls in the Houston area and to give them a chance to meet and learn from a player who has made it to the professional ranks like Sarah Huffman, who also happens to be from Texas," Dynamo Director of Youth Development James Clarkson said. "There will also be current college and former youth national team players working with the girls throughout the week. We will provide an outstanding learning environment and hope to have a positive impact on each player's development."
The Dynamo Girls Elite Camp, presented by StatoilHydro, is an opportunity for girls born between 1991 and 2001 to receive one-on-one instruction while learning new techniques and working to improve to a higher level of play. The camp will focus on technique and tactical development. Each player will practice skills to maximize her athletic potential and will focus mainly on speed, agility, quickness and power drills, and exercises.
Campers will receive a Dynamo T-shirt and Dynamo soccer ball and get the chance to meet a Dynamo player, expected to be midfielder Stuart Holden.
Dynamo Kids Camps are also available this summer from July 6-9 and July 20-23 and this winter, December 27-30. The Dynamo are also offering an exclusive goalkeeper camp for boys and girls aged 8-18, to be held July 6-9. The camp will include four nights highlighting technique, footwork, distribution, and decision-making in a fun environment. For more information, call (713) 276-7500 or log onto HoustonDynamo.com.
