Chicago Fire FC News Release
CHICAGO, IL (June 22, 2009) - The Chicago Fire is participating in a series of community events across the Chicagoland area over the next week. Throughout the year, the Chicago Fire participates in hundreds of community events to work with youth, charities and other organizations to promote the game of soccer by advocating wellness, healthy lifestyle choices, physical activities and education.
This week's events range from a "Wacky Wednesday" event for kids at Kiddieland to two promotional events for Chicago's bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games featuring Fire mascot, Sparky, and Fire forward Brian McBride.
Schedule of Community Events
What: Youth Fun Run Promoting Chicago 2016
When: Tuesday, June 23, 2009
8:00 AM - 10:00 AM
Where: Washington Park
Payne Drive (between 51st and 55th Streets), Chicago
Who: Sparky will be greeting and helping to warm-up about 900 students from the Chicago Park District program prior to the start of the media program and run at 10:00 AM, promoting Chicago's bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
What: Wacky Wildcat Wednesday at Kiddieland
When: Wednesday, June 24, 2009
2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Where: Kiddieland
8400 W North Ave, Melrose Park
Who: Sparky will be out at Kiddieland this Wednesday and for two more Wednesdays throughout the summer. The Fire and Radio Disney are partnering up to bring kids music and prizes to Kiddieland, as well as the opportunity to sign up for the Chicago Fire Kids' Club.
What: Countdown to Copenhagen - 100 Days until the Host City Decision
When: Thursday, June 25, 2009
6:30 PM - 9:30 PM
Where: Bon V
1100 W. Randolph Street, Chicago
Who: Fire forward and captain of the 2008 U.S. Men's Olympic Soccer Team Brian McBride will be at the Countdown to Copenhagen - 100 Days until the Host City Decision event to promote Chicago's bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. The event will include cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, a raffle, and special appearances by several Chicago professional and Olympic athletes.
What: Vive Tu Vida - Get Up! Get Moving!
When: Saturday, June 27, 2009
10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Where: McKinley Park
2210 W. Pershing Road, Chicago
Who: Fire midfielder Mike Banner, present from 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM, and Sparky will be there from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM promoting the National Alliance for Hispanic Health. Vive Tu Vida is a national family physical activity and healthy lifestyle event and features organized sports games, dance classes, health screenings, and health education activities to promote healthy living for both adults and children.
